Discover how your support helped Alex

Alex shares how education changed his life and why supporting young people matters.

Alex’s Story: How Education Changed His Future

When Alex looks back at the life he could have lived, he knows how easily things could have turned out differently.

Growing up, many of the friends he once played with lost opportunities to poverty, addiction, and hopelessness.

“The situation wasn’t good,” Alex reflects. “Most of my friends are into drinking, drug abuse and other harmful behaviours. You see someone who had a future, but then you can’t see it anymore.”

For Alex, access to education through because of your support chnaged everything.

“If I wasn’t part of Pestalozzi, I feel like maybe I was going to be one of them,” he says. “Pestalozzi helped me a lot. It has made me who I am today.”

His words are a powerful reminder of the transformative impact education can have — not only on an individual, but on entire communities.

It’s really helping a lot of people,” he says. “There are so many children who need these opportunities.

A Future Reclaimed Through Education

Alex believes the support he received gave him opportunities, direction and hope at a critical point in his life. Without it, he fears he could have fallen into destructive paths himself.

“If it wasn’t for Pestalozzi, maybe I was going to be a drug addict, who knows?”

Today, Alex speaks passionately about why Pestalozzi’s work must continue for future generations. He recognises that many young people across Zambia are intelligent and ambitious but lack the financial means to continue their education. Pestalozzi helps bridge that gap, identifying students with potential and giving them the chance to build brighter futures.

“Some want to become presidents, ministers, leaders for the country,” Alex says proudly. “Pestalozzi helps them reach that higher level.”

For Alex, supporting education is about more than changing one life. It is about creating hope, leadership and opportunity for generations to come.
