Finding Her Voice

Helping Others Find Theirs

How Blessings is Empowering Young People Across Zambia

At just 19, Blessings Mukandabantu is already helping reshape what youth leadership can look like in Zambia.

Having joined Pestalozzi in Grade 5, Blessings grew up in a community that taught her something she would carry long after the classroom: that leadership is not always loud, and it rarely begins with a title. More often, it begins in the quiet moments - when you choose to notice what others have learned to carry in silence.

As she grew older, Blessings began to recognise how many young people around her were navigating challenges that rarely found language. Family pressures. Loss. Questions of identity, belonging, and whether anyone would truly understand what they were going through.

The Pestalozzi journey has been amazing and it has shaped me in many ways it led me to form an organisation that aims to talk about mental health.

Some of those experiences were deeply personal.

And rather than accepting that silence, she decided to create somewhere it no longer had to exist.

Today, Blessings is founder of Let’s Talk Zed Youth Network - a growing youth-led platform creating spaces across Zambia where young people can speak openly, feel heard, and begin conversations that too often remain unspoken.

In schools, youth groups, and communities, those conversations are already beginning to travel further.

At an age when many are still discovering their own voice, Blessings is helping others realise theirs matters too.

This is what happens when opportunity is carried forward.
