From Rural Zambia to Continental Leadership
Ashelly is now stepping into conversations and helping shape the future of the continent
Ashelly’s Journey into African Youth Leadership
Ashelly has just returned from the Yale Model African Union in Accra, Ghana - stepping into conversations that are shaping the future of the continent.
At the conference, she represented South Sudan within the Peace and Security Council, contributing to discussions on conflict, genocide and the humanitarian crisis in Sudan.
Working alongside young leaders from across Africa - from Cameroon to Rwanda to Burundi - she helped develop a resolution focused on how cooperation and diplomacy can address complex, real-world challenges.
It was her first time in a space like this and the perfect opportunity to put leadership and agency skills into action.
Ashelly joined the Pestalozzi Future Leaders Programme in Zambia after being selected from her rural community for her leadership and potential. Since then, she has been part of an environment that encourages students to think critically, engage with global issues and take responsibility beyond themselves.
I had the privilege of connecting with young leaders from across Africa, debating pressing issues and learning from different perspectives. The energy and intellectual curiosity in the room were inspiring.

From local communities to continental dialogue, this is what it looks like when young people are equipped to step out of theoretical learning and contribute.
For Ashelly, this experience marks the beginning of stepping further into leadership with the confidence to engage and the responsibility to act.
